Questions to ask…
When my mommy was diagnosed with #dementia, I went into straight research mode to learn about the disease. As prevalent as #alzheimers is, I was surprised that there isn’t a cure and that more people are not trained to provide services and strategies for people suffering with this disease. I always believe that nothing happens by chance. God will train you for what’s to come-even when it doesn’t feel good.
My role as an Assistive Technology Specialist for special education helped me with strategies to assist mommy, and taught me how to advocate on her behalf.
You have to become your LO. You have to stay one step ahead and ask questions like..
What do they need?
What are they really trying to communicate?
What systems can I put in place to help her every day?
How can I provide an environment that’s safe?
What is she seeing that EYE’m not seeing?
How does she feel?
What’s her mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual health like?
Who am I to her today?
What sets her off?
This disease is a beast, but it’s NOT a life sentence.
We are pressing forward knowing that God’s promises are always, yes and amen. Our present circumstances will not take our eyes off of the cross. 💜
“May the Lord God bless you always is my prayer.”
